I received an ET 732 for Christmas, and would like to know if any of the brethren have had any problems due to running the probe wires under the lid of a WSM. TIA

People are damaging these probes often. they are fragile

Unknown, sounds like something a small hole and some high-temp silicone would fix.

I had used a probe for about twenty cooks and it went bad...not sure why.

Does anyone know a good Brethren friendly source for replacement probes.

Be careful when putting the wire under the lid it could damage the jacket. It is best to drill a hole and use a rubber gromet.

FYI: MAVERICK is out of stock on the probes till later in January.

+1 for 5-0 BBQ. Awesome customer service. I have had my 732 for awhile now and I have used it for about 5 cooks. I have been running it under the lid of my Ranch without a problem.

Wrap the probe with a little foil where it goes under the lid. I haven't damaged a probe doing that. And I was gonna suggest 5-0 BBQ too but others beat me to it. Big Poppa's BBQ also has them and he's a member as well.

I always run mine through the small holes with the door handle down through the door. Been doing it this way for a few years now and my probes work fine. I do have the earlier ET-73 version. I really want to upgrade the the 732. How is the range on the new one?

I suggest going to the Virtualweberbullet website and check out the modification section. The most common method for running probes into the WSM is by drilling a hole thru the unit and using a hollow lamp rod. Cost less than $5 to do. You will need some basic tools to do the job - drill, drill bit (nothing fancy needed), tape. It took me less than 30 minutes to do the modification.

I go through a hole in the side of my drums and lay them across the gasket in my Eggs. A piece of foil will make clean-up easier. I also store all my cables in a large coil instead of a tight coil. I have two older woven probes that have lasted 6 years or so.

You will like the convenience of the 732 for all night cooks. The receiver can hang out right on the night stand....

Good to hear! I just emailed them about the last ET-732 I bought. my other two are in storage with all our comp gear, so I picked up a new one a little over a month ago to use for the holidays. Plugged my bbq temp probe in, worked fine, plugged the food probe in for the very first time and got an HHH display. (it was at indoor room temp):mad2: Used an older ET-73 to watch temp and did ok though.

BBQ Guru has eyelets that allow the probe to be run through the side of the WSM. I use them on my WSM.

Yes, and no.

Locked is for carrying it around... besides, 1911's have a grip safety.

It's my understanding that the eyelets at the BBQ Guru are not largest enough for the ET-732 probe. I use a roll pin (1/4" I believe) and some set collars to run my through. Had to use a Dremel to open the slot in the roll pin a hair more. Wire slips through the slot, as the probe is too large to go through the hole. Setup is a little tougher, and you probably don't want to do it when the grill is going.

Some people also use a short section of lamp rod if you don't mind drilling your grill.

And got a quick response. Have to deal with Maverick. He gave me contact info. Shouldn't be hard to prove first use, the probe is immaculate

What are roll pins used for? And are the set collars similar to the collars used for drill bit stops? I like seeing gadgets new to me.

The probe / end won't fit through the pin, but the wire is able to pass through the roll pin slot. The probe does fit through the collars, so if you assemble it in the correct order you can use this setup on the existing WSM holes. The collars are the same as drill stops.

When you get the HHH display, double check to make sure the male plug is seated fully into the female receptacle.
