I have a stick burner and gas burner but do most of my cooks on the BGE. I have the platesetter but that is all. I am asking for Q cooking accessories for Christmas but don't know where to start. Which tool, gadget, or gizmo is your favorite?

My lighter so I can start the fire:becky: Seriously, I think I could do without most of the gadgets I have but I'd miss my gloves the most as I like reaching in to the firebox to carefully place my sticks.

I don't have one yet, but I'd like to have a Rib-O-Lator for my rotisseries.

Thermapen. Once you get over any hangups you might have about spending $100 on a thermometer you'll end up with the most essential kitchen tool around.

You already have the plate setter, which is the one "essential" EGGcessory. Maybe consider a cast iron grate for the Egg?

with an arthritic hip, and knees, remote thermometers are a god send!

I cant think of how I'd get an injection in the meat without an injector, so it's probably the one I cant do without.

So:

1 cant do without and cant replace with something else: injector
2 cant do without and cant replace with something else: really good insulated PVC coated gloves

1 would be nice to have and very darn handy, but can survive without: remote thermometer(s)
2 would be nice to have and very darn handy, but can survive without: thermapen
3 would be nice to have and very darn handy, but can survive without: naked dancin' women

Beer (but it can be replaced with Tequila)

For me it the remote thermometer. If you're looking you're not cooking. lets you keep the lid on.

Add another for remote thermometer. However, sometimes its hard to draw the line between essentials and accesorries :becky:

Aquablue 22 you're right, Beer is first, followed closely by a remote thermometer.

I would say a remote is an accessory and it's the most essential one I have. More often then not once the meat goes in the lid stays on and that makes for shorter cooks and more stable fires.

A Stoker is real nice. I would also recommend a pizza stone, Egged pizza is really good. Weed burner and a 12 pack is sure to entertain. Just TRY not to pull the trigger while lighting the egg!!!

My best and favorite accessory is a forum called the BbqBrethren.com.
I have learned how to judge the doness of meats either with my finger or a probe.
I have learned many many new tricks and tips, still learning each and every day.
For all ive learned, it was from the advice from all of the members here, for that I say thank you!

Beer? Must be a cultural thing. To Aussies that's like saying your favourite BBQ accessory is air. It is an essential element of life, not an accessory. :noidea:

The most important accessory for me is ........ Somewhere for my wife to go while I'm cooking so she won't constantly be asking "When will it be ready". :-D

The one accessory that I could not do with out is a good Pit B!tch. In all honesty, I mean that with the utmost repsect and admiration.

A well-taught PB will learn fire control, wood smoke application, temperature control, rub application, injection recipes, proper injection zones, resting techniques, etc.

This is my most valuable accessory...and I freaking dig her for it.

PVC coated gloves are for putting meat on and taking it off (when it's REALLY HOT):

See above for Maverick ET732's. I have 2 of the predecessor models and really like them. They're nice to have, but frankly I dont use them as much as I could. The gloves I use every single smoke and have for the last 10 years. It's almost time to get a new pair...

Got to give a second to naked dancin' women! Remote thermometer, pvc gloves and thermapen would be handy, but I GOT to keep my priorities!

For all you guys with the gloves. Here's a cheaper alternative and works better.

Buy some cotton gloves. I buy mine at the Restaurant Supply, others go to some outdoor stores. I wear those and pull rubber food service gloves over them.

These are way more flexible and I use the all the time for anything but handling firebox wood/really hot stuff.

Long tongs.
I just use leather gloves but I don't take long with them.
Large heavy spatula or pizza peel.
Temp gauge.
Internal temp gauge.
Spray bottle.
Lights because my cooks almost always end or begin in the dark.
Fireplace poker, various uses.
Pastry or silicon brushes.
Large pans.
Foil.
Paper towels.
And Me because I am such a tool Dave.

Another vote for my remote thermometer. This is the first tool I had for bbq before I had any other tool. Every other specific tool i have, I could get by with a 'jerry-rigged' something or other. I love my gloves, but before I had those - I just had to move REALLY FAST!

I have been thinking of my answer for this and when you get right down to it, the accessories I could not do without would be the 4 restraunt bus tubs I bought. They get used for everything!
They hold butts, brisket, and ribs when getting rubbed.
They hold butts before and during pulling.
They are my dishwashing set-up at comps and at home.
I'm gonna get more so I can dedicate their uses and wash them less.

Another vote for the Thermapen!!!

This more then anything else changed the quality of my cooking. It's so nice to get a quick temp reading.

I was without it a few weeks ago when I was cooking with family and I felt like I was flying blind.

A short handle pizza peel makes moving big cuts of meat in, out or around the cooker very easy.

This is the one I use.
