My grill decision journey:

After a lot of research, I narrowed my choices to a large BGE or a Weber One-Touch Platinum. Since I have small children, I would needed a table for the BGE (to keep them from knocking it over). That would have put the price to around $1,500, and that is out of my budget. So, I kept watching Craigslist and the classifieds and could not find any OTG, OTP or Performers locally. I wanted something with a work table and the OTP was the cheapest at $250. I really liked the performer but couldn't justify the additional $79. Well, I was in Home Depot today and they had Performers on sale for $279. So, I bit the bullet and here it is:

When I put it together, I noticed a nick on the lid. Also, one of the screws was messed up. When I called Weber customer service, the sent out a new lid and a hardware pack for free. They did not even want the old lid back. That is great customer service. To say I am pleased with my purchase is an understatement. Before joining the brethren, I had never given a Weber Kettle a second thought. I never knew how versatile they could be.

So it can be a just like a WSM or a kettle as needed.:becky:

That's a sweet deal especially getting Weber to send you another lid. I see a UDS in the making. I also noticed that Weber has changed the appearance of the cart (no big deal) and put a WSM type thermometer in the lid which I really like. Congrats on your new toy. :thumb:

That looks great Guerry!

It's the Cajun Bandit kit made just for 22 1/2" kettles. The funny thing is, I still use just the kettle for almost all of my smoking needs unless I need to go longer than quite a few hours.:becky::thumb: Kettle's are GREAT cooking tools!

You are going to love that grill! I love my OTG, but I still wish I would've dropped the extra cash for the Performer. I think the extra features are awesome.
Nice score on the sale!

I have a large BGE and a Performer. I simply love them both and I don't live in Utah. I had the Egg first and several years later got the Performer. Fun is probably the operative word when cooking on the Performer.

Enjoy!!

Awesome, i think you will find this to be the best bbq purchase you have ever made. It is very versatile. They are a master at control of heat and smokes great too. You will find lots of info on this forum for using this. I keep smoking simple some foil for the bottomrack and a drip pan, 4 bricks. thats it other than that just some vent control. good luck and enjoy.

My father-in-law just brought us 10lb of wings (he works for a chicken processing plant). So, I will grill some HDD wings on Friday for the LSU-Arkansas game. I can't wait.

I have a Bandera that I use when I'm smoking for more than just the family, but usually I just use my Weber 22.5 with the side baskets. Great find and Geaux Tigers!
