I am selling my 18" Weber Smokey Mountain on Craigslist. It has four eyelets for temp probes, a cover, and a second charcoal grate to keep the lump from falling through. It is in good condition but is the older style without a temp gage in the cover. Does $150 sound reasonable?

Once I sell it, I am buying the larger WSM!

How old is it? That's 50% the price of a new one. Probably a good posting price but I wouldn't expect to get it.

I've been actively scanning CL looking for a 18.5. I have set my limit at $100.00 in decent shape. You might get the $125.00 becuase I haven't seen one on CL for six months now.

As a rule of thumb, I wont pay more the 50% of new cost for anything used. Thats just me.

Good luck and best regards,

Tim

With a cover and the eyelets (if the buyer understands the value of those) I think 150 is a good starting point. You can always lower it if it doesn't sell.

I picked one up at the end of the summer for $75. I was a little worn and needs some love to get it back in shape. However, once it is cleaned, I was going to put it on CL next spring for $150. Remember, it is all about timing too and you may not get the money at this time of year that you could in the spring or summer.

$150 is more than fair, especially if they don't come up on CL often in your area. I'd ask for $175 and try to settle on $140-$150

Here in Dallas I don't EVER see a WSM under 150. That being said I paid 220 shipped for my new WSM :)

I think $150 could be a fair price depending on the market.

Here in DFW, $150 would be a good starting price for the WSM you described.

Just picked up a brand new one for $100.00 but I would have paid $150.00.

How did you pull that off?

I just sold two of my older 18" WSM's. Thoroughly cleaned them up for maximum resale. I take pretty good care of my equipment and it showed.
You've already done the mods, which I would say the majority of people aren't even aware or concerned about anyway, but hey we know what works!

One of them had the Cajun Bandit replacement door with the HH prop mod, Guru eyelet, center section handles, thermo, and two charcoal grates for lump. $150
The other had a Brinkmann charcoal pan and handles for the center. $125
A Smokey Joe Platinum 18" grill and a Weber chimney $40
Package deal for $280.

You could start a team with that setup. And I sold them to a PNWBA member without having to deal with craigslist flakes. I'll bet someone in the RMBBQA would jump on it to add to their arsenal.

It offset the recent 2011 22" WSM I payed $250 for, so I'm a happy camper. Stick with $150.

The guy never used it. Just wanted to get rid of it. Called about 5 minutes after he posted it.

It has been sold for $140. I forgot that it also included the clay pot that goes in the water pan. Thanks to everyone for your advice!

If Bob is reading this forum, I hope you enjoy your new smoker as much as I have for the last few months.

Next step is to buy the bigger WSM. I can't buy it for a few weeks though and may go thru withdrawal! It will be used for my daughter's wedding and son's graduation next year.
