Yeah, I felt bad about it because nobody called him out on it before it got lost in the cacophony of other posts, so he probably never saw it coming. Sides are sides though, and rules are rules. As for the other two....they should have probably been DQ'ed automatically so no explanation is necessary.:heh: At least I didn't DQ the dishes with garnish!

Grrr... I didn't see the rule about the sides.

But in my defence, in one of those pics the sides are SO out of focus you'd be hard pressed to tell if they were actual sides or chromatic aberration.

I firmly believe it's just a ploy, because my entry was the best of the bunch, and y'all didn't wanna lose to a rookie like me. :tsk:

Your sides were a mistake, but I have no doubt that Gore was taunting bigabyte with his potato. I think it is one of his favorite pastimes.

But, if bigabyte would have let you get away with sides, while banning Gore, we'd be hearing about that injustice for the next few decades.

So, basically, it is Gore's fault you got your DQ. You should be very angry at him, and tell him so -- many times. :heh:

OK. There's NOTHING more manly than going up a mountain, farking up your knees, running out of water, killing a wild beast, dressing it, carting it down a mountain (Did I mention farked up knees?) and then cooking the farker. Colonell00 gets my WELL respected vote.

Yes I agree it's pretty dam manly to climb up that hill, run out of water, fark up your knees and pick lead out of your meat.

But there is allot to be said for the experienced man who walks into Costco, grabs a case of water, some lead free manly meat, maybe some lotion to put on his unfarked up knees and pick up a DVD so he can watch on TV some manly man go up a hill, run out of water, fark up his knees and pick lead out of his meat while enjoying the nice manly rib eye he just picked up at Costco.:heh:

I don't know...I read the mullie hunt thread with much interest. I will never get to do that so I had a nice vacation, albeit vicariously. Was it Man Sized Meat? Not really what I expected as an entry. Believe me, I'm taking nothing away from Colonel00, it was definitely a manly procurement of meat. I just couldn't vote for it in this particular circumstance. Had the TD been entitled "Wild Game" or "Kill it and eat it", he would have had my vote hands down. But, as a consolation prize (which means nothing at all) your hunt is the best damn vacation I have had in a long time!

Hey, I had to park way far from the door at Costco, and deal with a bunch of old people buying cases of canned vegetables and depends, and then get out of the Costco parking lot without being hit by a soccer mom in a minivan talking on her cell phone. THAT is some serious danger.

But of course, and to all counts! I should take the blame for trying to do away with special rules that get people DQ'ed for what I think is no good reason. In actuality, I had thought that the special rules had been relaxed when things were labeled garnish, but mostly when Guerry submitted his sliced roast -- figured if the husband of the person who called the throwdown can submit something forbidden (and I'm sure Redhot was there to help), then anything goes. I figured that potato could pass for a garnish, but I also thought the uncut pic posted above would be used otherwise. That is why I didn't post this pic of the giant butterfly that floated down and sucked the garnish out of the image. I was lucky enough to catch it just before it flew away.

I think the point is that we've gone from giving the winner the right to "choose the next Throwdown category" in which Biggie started allowing a few lines of insight about the category to giving the the winner the right to add additional rules. Additional rules always cause problems with interpretation and people get DQ'ed because they're not expected -- we now have two partial sets of rules in two different thread locations! How confusing is that for someone trying to play for the first time? I hate it that Chad was eliminated for this, and I also hate it that Bill was also (and I loved that pic). I much preferred the now-obsolete let-the-voters-decide rule. It was much less confusing and much less arbitrary. Just post them all and let the voters sort through them. As far as special rules, give us some insights, but no restrictions. Restrictions should be taken only from the throwdown title.

OK, I was going over the special rules one more time:

"Whether a hefty pork chop, porterhouse, ribeye or any other larger cut, you are called upon to cook one single large portion of meat fit for a king. No whole roasts, prime rib, leg of lamb, etc. sliced into single portions. You must include at least one picture of the prep, one of it on the grill/smoker and one plated. NO sides in your TD picture, the meat should speak for itself!

Eggplant, SPAM, fowl, or fish entries will be double DQ'd."

1. This is definitely a hearty cut, New York strip, 2.5" thick, just shy of 4 pounds.
2. It is not a sliced roast. It is a steak. I ate it like a steak and I did NOT slice it. I cut big bites and ate them. It was smoked with oak and very tasty. Besides, nobody would eat a whole roast. That'd be crazy.
3. I did include three pics, actually several more than three: several raw, two on the grill, and two cut. One of these had a garnish, but the other one did not.
4. I think the meat definitely does speak for itself.
5. There is no Spam, fowl, or fish.

Looking at the cooked picture again, and I now have my reading glasses on this time so it's a bit more in focus.

http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt211/gvideen/mansize/IMG_3735-1-1.jpg

What I now see is a fleck of parsley that came off the side of the steak onto the plate. I missed it completely before, but with my glasses on it is clear (I circled it in red, because others may have missed it). I can only guess that this is considered an illegal side. All I can say is, "Chris, you don't eat the parsley!"

Only problem is...YOU FORGOT TO SPECIFY THE PIC!!! Forcing Bigabyte to choose for you and, naturally, he chose to DQ you.:tsk::becky:

I thought the other pic looked like it would score higher. Sadly, it had a side garnish and I had to DQ it. Rulez iz rulez.
