I rented a house that had a large stack of split wood in the back yard. Looks like it's been there several years. I'm kinda late in asking this, since I've already cooked with it a few times, but, I just want to ask does this look like oak?? It's dry and splits easily with my maul.
Would you have any reservations in cooking with it? Thanks.

Yep, I do believe you've got some oak there although I'm not sure what kind. As long as it's not rotten it's ok. Older wood just doesn't smoke or burn as long.

Looks like oak to me too. Use with red meats, like beef.
