Maverick ET-7 Remote-Check Wireless Thermometer With 2 Probes. I was looking at thus model online and it says two probes but I can't find the specs to see if the 2nd probe is extra or if they can both be used at the same time to monitor meat and smoker temperature. Does anyone have any insight into this specific model and if it is a decent or durable thermometer.

You can plug in both probes at once, but they're both food probes, not sure if they go high enough to monitor pit temp. For example my Weber probe only goes up to like 180. You might need a ET-73 or ET-732 to monitor both chamber and food temps.

Probes on the ET-7 are rated at just above 400 degrees. Off the top of my head I believe it is 409.

They're rated for that, but to what temp will the digital receiver read? The probe on my Weber 6438 is rated to 482*, but it's impossible to use it as a pit probe because digitally it only goes up to 180-200*, forget exactly, but not over 200, maybe it was 199*

This was taken directly from Maverick's Site:

Taste or “doneness” (rare, medium, medium well, well done) as appropriate for each meat, or choose your own target “Set” temperature up to 410º F (210º C), and in your choice of ºF or ºC

“Set” temperature up to 410º F

What happens if the heat goes above the probes limit.
Does it ruin the probe or does it just not register that high and stop at the maximum?
I have a ET-732

I thought 1 was for food and 1 was for temp in the smoker.

Mine has a range varying from 1" to 10' on a good day before it loses the signal altogether, often within an hour. Based on my experience and several others, I wouldn't consider this one. Others have spoken well of the ET-732.

With this unit the ET-7, once you are above that range you take the chance of killing the probe.

With your ET-732 that you have to go above 700 degrees to kill the probe.

The ET-7 is a two Food Probe unit.

The ET-73 and ET-732 are the dual units with a smoker probe and a meat probe.

Used my et-732 for the first time last weekend and loved it. What a difference that makes, not having to keep running outside to check on temp. I can keep the lid closed and let it cook now.
