Which do you prefer? Lets say if you can only do one for the rest of your life.

You just made me blow a fuse trying to decide.

Smoking if time permits and the meat benefits of course.

Grilling if short on time or making steaks

That's a real tough choice, but I went with grilling!

WOW!!! Tough choice!! I gotta agree with Guerry.

Only 1 choice has to be grilling. You can always add some smoke to hot and fast.

I can't choose. I'll have to have a Weber Kettle so that I can do both. Next you'll be asking us to choose between smoking, or boiling our ribs.

09-09-2011, 04:53 PM
Give me the option to grill, more versatile I think.

09-09-2011, 04:56 PM
I'll take the middle....smoke hot and fast and sear at the end.

09-09-2011, 05:00 PM
grilling. more options.

09-09-2011, 05:00 PM
Wow what a question I totally overworked my noggin on this one and would have to say grilling I can learn hot n fast for brisket and butts, but don't think I want to low n slow a steak or chops...

This shouldn't be a choice on a BBQ forum.

09-09-2011, 05:11 PM
After a half hour self debate I went with smoking. If I chose the other I'd have to change my name to SmoothGrills.

lol you are right. its just for fun. I would never give up any choice.

I would say smoking. A smoked flat iron steak will make you forget about grilling for a while. And I love to grill!

09-09-2011, 06:56 PM
It's soo tough...but I think smoking wins my heart.

09-09-2011, 07:07 PM
I can sear in a frying pan but I can't smoke in an oven.

Been burning meat for over 40 years. Since finding this site, building a uds, reading what all you brethren have thought me, i will say

I have to pick grill. I can also find a way (sometimes a pain in the rear) way to smoke on a grill.

09-09-2011, 07:56 PM
Grilling!! I MIGHT be able to live without brisket MIGHT, but I sure as hell could live without a nice RIB EYE!!! (It hurts my brain to type this)

09-09-2011, 08:17 PM
I love to smoke, but I grill 4-5 times a week. Its like asking which hand I want cut off

That's cheating, if you're going to pick grill, no smoking at all. :becky: :boxing:

Had to go with grill. Love me a seared ribeye steak.

Grill - I love to smoke (food that is) but I can grill anything ! (except ice cream)

09-09-2011, 08:49 PM
At it's purest form the question is not about cookers, but cooking. Therefore, I'll take ribs, chicken, turkey, brisket, pork loin, pulled pork, chuckie, Abt's, MOINK balls, and fatties over steak.

Grilling for me. I've got to have me a nice thick rib eye cooked over lump charcoal.

09-09-2011, 09:11 PM
My first instinct is to say smoking, but once you stop and think about it how can you not go with grilling. Boy thats a hard choice.

09-09-2011, 09:41 PM
I can always run my smoker up to 500 or so degrees and cook hot & fast. I can't make my grill last 15 hours without refueling...

09-09-2011, 09:53 PM
I prefer cooking over my campfire. Some might say that's grilling but with the proper grate elevation, coal arrangement and good dry wood i can impart a good smoke!

09-09-2011, 09:54 PM
Fairly easy to make a pot of coffee skillet bacon and eggs and toast on my grill......not so easy on my SJUDS.

09-09-2011, 11:45 PM
Grilling.....it's more versatile.

Grilling only because ribeye is my favorite food group. Heck maybe thin slices of some of those tough meats might grill up ok!

09-10-2011, 02:02 AM
My brain gave a blue screen of death.

Grilling, I can do ribs on a rotisserie.

Being able to choose only one method for the rest of my life would lead one to believe that a catastrophic event has befallen the planet leaving only one cooking style to choose from. This being the case it would follow suit that the meat supply could be populated with tougher cuts on wilder animals. As such, I went with smoking.

I may be watching too many zombie movies...

You can always boil them ribs!

I'm with mbshop, I can always add some chips and slow down the grill.

09-10-2011, 09:31 AM
If I had to choose between those two I don't know what I'd do. That's a tough one for sure... I'm abstaining from the vote :)

09-10-2011, 09:36 AM
Smoke! Smoke! Smoke! Smoke!!!!

09-10-2011, 09:55 AM
Actually since I started smoking 6 years ago I do very little grilling so it is an easy choice.
