I was wanting to build my own cart for my 22" Weber kettle similar to that of a Weber Performer. I was thinking those SS wire shelves with casters you see at Sam's might be a good place to start. Anyone have any pictures of a similar project? Thanks.

Well, I am currently building a cart that will house 1-2 UDS's and a kettle. I will see if I can get a new pic up. I would watch craigslist. I would think you would see a Performer pop up for a decent price in the Des Moines area. I picked up one and have seen several others recently in the KC CL.

As far as building your own, I am guessing you are talking about the metro shelving. That could work. Also check and see if they have a SS cart. My Sam's has one with two solid SS shelves. The solid shelves would be tougher to cut but might work better.

This member of the Brethren built a table for his Kettle similar to what people due for their BGEs.

Apparently it didn't work out in the end due to the heat, but I'm impressed with the table and will build one eventually.

Here is the cart I am currently working on. It will have a kettle in the middle. I am still working out exactly how to mount it as I wasnt it slightly below the rail. The design is setup to allow for work surfaces to be put in place and removed as necessary. So, I would want the bottom of the kettle below that level when when its not in use so I can have a cutting board or other surface over it.

Here is a UDS I built for a friend. The metro shelving I used was 16" or maybe 20". I cut it out to go around the barrel. You would probably want to find 24" deep shelving and then cut it out for the kettle. I would work out some sort of ring to go where you cut the shelving to both reinforce the structure and to keep the sharp edges from cutting the kettle and you.
