Hey - didn't ol' whatshisname use one of those on TV the other night?

Who is whatshisname?

That right there looks to be your basic ECB.

You have basically no air flow or fire control on those.

In a perfect world (optimal ambient atmospheric conditions) it would work.

Thanx for saving me a toll call.

It looks like my smoker. you will get REAL tired of having to empty the top rack to get to the second rack. Not bad if space is a premium issue.

It's about the same floorspace as a WSM but shorter I think.

I'll pass. Maybe a miracle will happen and I'll stumble on a used WSM.

Grabbed one spur of the moment for a tailgate out of town. I ended up with maps folded up and the little door open to keep the heat up. I'm told you can cut holes in the bottom to increase airflow. Wrapping some brats in foil and wiring them to the exhaust manifold would have been much easier.

You get what you pay for. However, I did my first 2 briskets on an ECB - now, they were small flats so it wasn't as bad. But it was also before I found this place. I was real proud that I kept that temp gauge in the IDEAL range. :D Who knows what temperature it actually was in there. Brisket tasted alright, tender but definitely not "budda". If you wanted something to throw in the back of the truck for camping and not worry about it getting beat up it would be alright.

I'm gonna wait for a WSM.

I have a friend that uses one all the time and loves it. Don't know why but he does

Where does one start on the " R 2 D 2 unit. It Sucks!!!!!! Very poor design with many flaws worst of which is air flow to the fire pan. This is the very smoker that drove me to develop the Spicewine smoker.

I would send you my old one but it's good for a laugh every now and then.

Oh contrair (sp)

Mista, look at my Christmas pick in the pics section. That was my first ECB. Think it is still only like $29.99 new.

So what is this good for?

I use it as my "traveling smoker"

Fits in the back of the van, bag of charcoal inside, with room for suitcases, kids and dogs. Take the ECB with me to Indianapolis, or camping, etc.

It can turn out some pretty decent Q.

I admit that it takes alot more work for fire control, but Jimming it does help. I also don't add a ton of fuel, and add more as I go along.

Only use it once a year or so, but I think it makes a great "portable" smoker.

Not a bad smoking grill either. Coals and wood on the bottom shelf, no water pan, and meat on the top shelf. Its direct heat, but far away from it.

Turns out bone in chicken boobs that are well worth it.
