Hey Brethren..

The Young Adult group from church is coming over tomorrow night. It's a potluck type deal (hey, we are United Methodist afterall) but I wanted to show off my UDS. I'll upload some pron tomorrow. But a question:

Any of you ever used awful looking peppers? In all of the stores I went to looking for jalapenos, I couldn't find any that weren't all wrinkled and ugly. Finally talked the produce manager at one store down to half price on them, figured the wrinkles wouldn't matter as they'll be covered in bacon, and i'm about to cook them anyways. Is there anything to be scared of on these, other than them being a little ugly?

They might end up a little mushy or chewy, but I suspect they will be all good.:thumb:

Not as long as you have an ample supply of TP on hand... :thumb:

They will be just fine Jim. Crisp up the bacon and all will be well.

They'll be great - you won't even notice if you half boat them and wrap in bacon. :thumb:

Don't eat them. Ugly peppers taste terrible.

Did they look like this (green or red)? If so, that's actually a good thing.

Why is that good? Does cracking mean more aged and hence more pepper flavor... or spicier?

It means they are more ripened before they were picked from the vine.

Some jalapenos get those cracks, even at the green stage. They end up being both hotter and sweeter, just the better jalapeno in my mind.
