Well it's finally done. My Klose 6' custom backyard pit is done! But it's still 1600 miles away

I gotta say its been a pleasure to deal with Klose. I am extremely happy it turned out exactly how I asked. I mocked up the a drawing of how i wanted it and they nailed it. Sure it's a pretty straight-forward design, but I was picky on the dimensions as well as the placement of things like blower port, racks, etc. Not to mention the vato who worked on it does beautiful welding.

Can't wait to baptize it with some good Canadian swine. :-D

Klose runs a top notch shop. When I bought mine, everyone at the shop was awsome and welcomed me and my family. They were very accomadating and service was top notch. Congrats and i hope you take delivery soon.

On its way next week hopefully. Still shopping around for shipping. It's 1400lbs, so shipping ain't cheap!

Looks great...

Klose makes great quality pits...

Where's the exhaust pipe ? Is it the really large pipe that looks like it's on the back ?

Yup, exhaust on back. Same as the ones in the background.

Klose pit, beauty! Hey, I bet I can run down there and pick that sucker up for you. I can just keep it here and break it in for a few years. He does put a large exhaust chimney on his pits, but, they work great.

Nice equipment.
I agree D Klose is wonderful to deal with. Went back and forth with him for several months with e-mails & over the phone to work on a set up. I kinda felt bad in the end because I didn't sign with him and it really just came down to the shipping. The cash I would have spent on the shipping I put into extras on the Meadow Creek and picked it up myself.

Best of luck with that unit!

I enjoyed dealing with Klose. I didn't enjoy paying for the shipping, but that was awhile back and I've since forgotten about it. I love the pit I got from them & I know you're gonna love yours! :thumb:

Heck with shipping, it will be cheaper to just drive to Texas and get it. That is what YeloNUTZ did with his Gator pit.

You're gonna love it! I have the small 30" but it works just as good as a grill as it does a smoker. Enjoy.

BIG thanks to Nathan Hogancamp at FreightQuote for getting me some superfast shipping dirt cheap. I've been searching for shippers for the last two weeks and getting some pretty scary quotes, some more than the pit is worth!!

I took the recommendations here and tried my luck at FreightQuote.com. After working with Nathan I found it's a breeze to ship big and heavy pits from one end of the country to the other. It's a lot less stress knowing its finally en route.

He ain't a member here, but feel he deserves a shout out as he went above and beyond to work things out knowing I was shipping an unwieldy bbq pit that needs to be across the country in 3 days. He's definitely the guy to call if you gotta move a pit or are considering buying one from far far away

Good call. What do you recommend? I saw this place in Memphis that flash freezes their ribs and ships them all over the place. But open to better ideas??

Lobo,

That sounds great! I visited their shop when I was in Houston last year, and damn near bought one on the spot, but when they told me about how much the shipping and brokerage fees would be, I decided to hold off (for a little while, although I do have a green light from my wife!) I will be interested to hear about your shipping and customs experience in bringing the unit to Canada. Do keep us posted! They are really sturdy looking rigs, I am sure that you will be one happy Q'er!

My dad lives about 20 minutes from where your Klose is right now. I've been meaning to go there sometime when I visit him.

Actually, I could go pick it up for you -- I'm only four hours away. I'll even test it for you, to make sure there are no flaws. Plus, shipping will be cheaper from Dallas. :becky:
