If I bought this Whalen Kettle King ...and I wanna....I'd be sleeping in the garage with it...lol. Maybe one of you Brethren needs this for your arsenal.

It looks an awful lot like the Weber Ranch Kettle. Those things can hold a ton of grub and it takes just about that much fuel at the looks of it.

Yes they are very similar.....I don't think the Whalen is in production any longer....that might make it a good find. I'm guessin a full-on grilling session will be lots of fuel but if a Brethren wanted to do a little indirect cooking that mite be the ticket. If I could talk the guy down to 275-300 ($699 new) I'd have to pick it up. The Weber Rancher retails at about a grand. There are definitely 3-4 family events per year I could use this for. And the wife and I have tossed the catering idea around some. Maybe after we retire in about 8-10 years.

Well, I got a good price on the King Kettle and by Sunday it'll be setting by my smokers. It looks to be in really good shape. No reconditioning necessary. Apparently only used 5 times. $650 when new and I got them to come way down on the asking price. After I get it to the house on Sunday I'll post up some pics! And the wife says I don't even have to sleep outdoors with it! She's a helluva gal and knows that grilling and smoking are next most 2 favorite passions.

Holey Moley, Mafia you have quite the arsenal there! You must really have an awesome wife too, lol. Looks like you have a grill/smoker for every possible scenario. After adding the King Kettle I would like to build a UDS and then down the road a Santa Maria build. In my dreams I might add a Spicewine (about an hour away from them so I need to go take a look).

Yeah it's big alright....I'll be putting it through it's paces on July 4th. Usually have about 60-70 people out for grilled BBQ. Either before or after that I'll try it out for some indirect cooking......I have 5 tri-tips in the freezer. I stock up cuz they are not an easy find around here.

A weber kettle(or another brand of 36inch grill) is next on my wishlist. I am not spending $1000 on a grill, so I'm just gonna keep looking until I find a deal like yours. Congrats.

Can you weld? Building a big, coal grill isn't hard...and alot cheaper than $1k.
