Contest Announcment New Contest, Connecticut State Championship, Ridgefield Gone Country BBQ Festival, May 3,4 2014

Contest

Que and a Half Men is going to Annapolis. The weak prize money, low limit on teams, and being a first year event, we decided to pass on CT. Besides, we had a blast last year in MD with our mid-Atlantic friends.

nope.. sent my app in a month ago.... got an email yesterday that Im out..

30 days to get notified?? REALLY????

Yeah, that was disappointing. We really wanted to do this one but missed the cut. My teammate lives 10 minutes away. Oh well.

My understanding is they have the room for lots more teams, just wanted to keep it small the first year for logistical reasons. I'd think increasing to 25-30 would still be reasonable for a first year event, but then again I've never been an organizer so that's easy for me to say.

Regardless, sounds like it's going to be a nice event. Hopefully we get in next year!

Just seems kind of strange to send in an app 3 days after its announced and be told theres no room 30 days later. When I do my contest, I keep all the envelopes with postmarks and fill out the team list ONLINE as the apps come in. First come first serve.

With high entry fee and low payouts, I chose this contest for no other reason than to support a local and first year event. I will admit, the low payout makes it a lot easier to move on and find another contest. Done Deal.

Agreed. I would hope that they are not cherry picking teams. I can't think of a reasonable explanation as to how the contest is announced 1/31/14, I send in my check 4 days later and then hear 30 days later the contest is full. In addition my email states that they have room for more grilling teams. .!??? If you let me set up in a space for grilling, why not let me stay and do KCBS?

I'm not cooking the NEBS if someone wants to cook it under my team...

From my email from Cliff
"The Ridgefield Gone Country BBQ Festival Committee is very appreciative of your interest in being a contestant. We have filled up all of our allotted spots for the KCBS Competition, which has been proclaimed by the Governor of CT as a CT State BBQ Championship. We are sorry to say that you will not be able to compete for that, however we do have some remaining spots open for NEBS Grilling and BBQ Competition on Sat which also counts towards NEBS Team of the Year. If interested, please let us know ASAP."

Would love to hear from Cliff why it takes a month to figure out the contest is full and why if there is physical space for more NEBS team why not let those teams compete in KCBS...
In additon, after having private conversations with some other teams that were not "accepted" into the contest, there is definitely some "ill will", and is anger too strong a word?
I would think not a great way for a first year contest to get off the ground.

We're in, and are really excited about it! First Comp of the season for us and right here in Conn. Thanks for getting this going Ridgefield!

Its a first year contest guys. There are going to be bumps. I understand it really sucks when you are on the wrong end. Trust me, has happened plenty to me. But in a slight defense for the contest, I think the contest was on the KCBS site back in December. I made contact with someone other than Cliff and just not remembering his name. I sent in my application early, just because I knew that 18 teams would fill fast. So did they hold checks? Sounds like it, and I am pretty sure it won't happen next year.
