Hey Breth,

I'm considering buying a Meadow Creek BBQ42 chicken cooker. I've heard good things on the Brethren forum about the cooker itself, but I'm wondering if the $635 insulation option is worth it on top of the cooker's baseline $925 price tag -- if it really delivers on its 2-3x longer cooking times, or any other advantages. The insulation on my Backwoods has obvious benefit, but not so sure about how well it works in a chicken cooker configuration. I'd be glad to hear from either owners of a standard BBQ42 or owners who opted for the insulation.

Thanks!

i really don't think you have to spend the extra for insulated.Chicken is done reasonably hot, the spin grate is 18 inches from the coals, if it gets to hot then keep spinning the grate, this is something i should have bought with the pr60, however the pr60 does GREAT chicken any time of year.I went to shipshawanna and seen the chicken cooker in action and yep its bad ass, easy to use, spray the grate with pam first before loading it up.
