We had our first competition cook this past weekend in Florence AZ and took some unexpected walks!

I didn't have any grand expectations, just focused on my cook and getting everything tuned in on time.

Had an absolute blast. There were 30 teams in attendance, pretty sure I was the only rookie though.

On to the goods:
Chicken - 18th
Ribs - 20th
Pork - 3rd :thumb:
Brisket - 3rd :thumb:

Good for 7th overall

I did make a couple rookie mistakes, 1 of my ribs was placed in the box upside down, also in my haste I didn't sample both racks that went in the box, only the first one. Since I had split scores on taste and tenderness on ribs (had 2 10s, 2 9s, and 2 7s) I am thinking 1 of them just wasn't up to par.

Chicken surprised me, appearance and tenderness scored well but didn't hit high on taste, all 8s and one 9. I'll be adjusting my rub and sauce.

All in all an awesome weekend!

Looks good. :thumb: I'll bet you're hooked now.

I judged a double header this weekend and I'm still full! Those bites add up.
