Electric Log Splitter Recommendations

Anyone recommend an electric log splitter? I have a cord that wasn't quite split small enough for my cooker.

I bought a Wen Lumberjack log splitter form Home Depot and splits four cords of wood with it and is still going strong but as long as the splits are not too large . I would suggest a Kindling Cracker too to make some splits even smaller. .

Found this thread searching log splitters. I'm wondering if those of you that have these store them standing up vertically or do they need to remain horizontal?

Pulled the trigger on a YardMax 9-ton unit this week. Hope to have it by the weekend. From my research you can store it vertically providing you close the vent valve to avoid leaks. It can only be used horizontally and you must open the vent or risk blowing out the seals.

My YardMax 9-ton unit arrived yesterday. This thing is a beast and the one green log I tested with is now 7 beautiful "sticks" in no time.

Back to the vertical storing question.... This unit will not stand vertically without some sort of modification. I'm still working on the solution but the guard plate that would like to function as a stop rest is way too flimsy and will bend immediately. I'll post up my fix when I get it as this MUST be stored vertically in my limited space shop.

Until then, I'll splitting away with ease. :thumb:

I bought a small one from Lowes several years ago and it works great. I split my splits, no kindling cracker needed.

We had Hurricane IAN blow by in late Sept. and I've since used it to split green Hickory and Oak, probably up to 14" in diameter and its still chugging along. When that wood dries out some, I'll break it down further to fit my cooker, but Its at least broken in halves or quarters to sit a while.

As much as i love (and will hang on to) my Kindling Kracker this Yardmax electric splitter has raised the bar. Getting closer to figuring out vertical storage. Split a bunch today and even had the G/F using it - she was like a kid at Christmas.

The vertical storage issue had been solved. Using some angle iron and carriage bolts I was able to attach to the frame on OEM spots. I did replace the cheesy fasteners with some slightly longer bolts to allow for the angle iron. Works great and is fully adjustable.

Here's a little detail shot... Three holes in each piece and no welding required unless you mis-drill a hole. Just happened to have some matching Krylon paint for a finishing touch.
