A Hanford, CA, meat-processing facility is again recalling ground beef for potentially containing small pieces of plastic. According to a recall notice issued Tuesday by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, Central Valley Meat Company is recalling nearly 90,000 pounds of ground beef in 40-lb. cases containing 10-lb. chubs of “Fine Ground Beef.”

The products were shipped to distribution centers in Arkansas, Nebraska and North Carolina and were intended for use by the National School Lunch Program. They bear the establishment number “Est. 6063A” inside the USDA Mark of Inspection. The products were produced on July 23, 2013, and can be further identified by case code “6063A3204A” or “6063A3204B” or “6063A3204C.”

Today I used the old fashioned hand grinder to make burgers from a 3 pound Tri Tip and one pound of Hoffy Bacon. Made 6 ounce patties I'll sizzle up on the K tonight!

Don't BUY ground meat, ya just don't know what you are eating (Lips and butts).

Yeah, but school children don't have the option of grinding their own. Thanks Ron. With a distribution center in Arkansas, some might wind up in Memphis City Schools lunchrooms.

Once again, I am amazed at what companies sell to school lunch programs -- and make a lot of money selling, I have no doubt. Kids will gladly eat crap, if it tastes good to them, because they don't know any better. They're kids.

You ground up a tri-tip?

I wish I could find a tri-tip around here.

i ground a tri-tip with a couple slices of benton's bacon a couple weeks ago and it was GREAT. the tri-tip was $2.99/lb, which is cheaper than i can buy ground meat or cuts to grind. i understand the regular price will be $3.99 in the future, but that's still cheaper than what they sell chucks for around here.

The school lunch program is horrible out here as well. I would note that this particular company has a less than stellar record.

Yep, ground beef at Costco is about 3.19 a pound right now. 2.99 is still more than I pay for choice brisket, but it's comparable to what I'd pay for chuck roasts. 3.99 a pound sounds about right, but I haven't bought one in awhile, so it may have gone up. Stupid, stupid chuck roasts...

you guys and your farking coctco stores......

I live near Hanford. that recall was a few weeks ago. they got most if not all of it back. that place actually does rather good work. like anything something will happen at times and they caught it.

What's wrong with Costco stores?! I loooove Costco. I love it, love it, LOVE IT! I'd go there everyday if I could. EVERY! DAY! I hit up the meat markets every now and again, and probably am going to have to drag my ass out there for some pork belly, but more often than not it's Costco, Kroger, Sprouts, and 99 Ranch booooy. Go to Viet Hoa too whenever they've got a good deal on crab.

Reading this thread and I thought , how good is that, making sure the Kids have a decent feed.
