Round Ends on RF Smokers

One of my co-workers tried to convince me that a meadow creek was better than a lang because of the air flow on the rounded ends on the meadow creek in comparison to the flat ends on the Lang. Do the rounded ends on a smoker really make that big of difference on a RF Smoker? I really don't think so, but then again i'm far from an expert.

At the rate the air flows thru a smoker, like mentioned you probably would not see a difference. Very slow flow.
But, in other forms where air travel is faster and is required to make at least one turn. Like an engine intake from carb/ throttle body into a cyl head. Yes, "D" shape intake ports have better mixture/swirl and less turbulence than any other shape that I have built and run on flow benches and dyno's.
The flat side of the "D" is to the inside of a turn/bend... just like a RF smoker.
More useless knowledge I've acquired over the years.

Then what ever you do, don't let your co worker see this pic, it'll cause his brain to melt!

(no, not my pic, just one off the interweb)

Own a Bubba Grill and cooked with awscwi on his Shirley Fab and see no difference in flow. I'm always sticking my hand over exhaust stacks to feel the flow an seek a smell and they both have the same rate.

Now if he was arguing that pitch of a smoker would speed up or slow down the flow he would have a leg to stand on. Raising the jack up or down will affect the flow for sure imo.

The early Langs had rounded ends because, according to Ben, they used old tanks for the cook chamber. They're flat now because they use a rolled steel and weld on the flat ends.
I can only assume the supply for the current method is more reliable than the old tanks was.
I'm not sure a bloodhound could tell the difference.

This thread is almost as good as the one about removing bark from wood before using it in a smoker.

I am so confused. So, I have the older round end Lang. Does that mean I should be removing the bark, or is bark removal only for the flat ended models? Also, if I am supposed to leave the bark on, what do I do with barkless splits? Do I need to find some bark to glue on?

Does Lang run his grates over the return area. Shirley won't run grates from end to end, to let the flow come around. Mayber in the Meadow Creek the grates run the flat of the tank and the rounded tip gives room for flow like in a Shirley and lang is missing that??? Only explanation that would make sense to me.
