G66, depends on what temp you're shooting for. I'm trying to get and maintain 750 for Neopolitan pizza. Not easy to get there and stay there. Been considering a blower, but none of the controllers I've seen can handle higher temps. Probes for these seem to all crap at 450.

I have no problem achieving those temps, just gotta stack your lump properly.

What temp do you shoot for? By the way, your signature lines have me spitting coffee all over my keyboard...

Hot.

Never really bothered with measuring temps. Most of my experience is with a Weber Kettle.

For the couple of times that I've used my BGE, I put the pie on above 550. I haven't tried a how hot can I get it run yet.

I ordered one as well. Seems like we'll have to come up with our own experiences with this grate for low-temp uses. Looking forward to taking it for a spin and posting some findings.

Check with Tom(tjv here) from ceramicgrills.

It looks like a chromed version of the grate for the BGE mini.

lolol...I'll do a little research, but I really think a 9" circle of expanded metal would provide the same air flow and provide ash drop
cheap option

:thumb:

OK, how much for a 9" circle of expanded metal?

Why not just get the 9" grate from the mini egg, only $17 from freds music and bbq?

the site says the grates are fabricated from 304 stainless. I never had a need to mess with the lump grate, bge's stock grate seems to work ok for me.

As a fabricator, not sure I'd be messing with changing OEM lump grates given how ceramic cookers are known to flash. Just to many attorneys in the world looking for a new client. t

That's grate...

Stainless is always a nice way to go if you don't mind the price difference.:-D
When I'm smoking, I usually try to avoid using any grate where I can; sometimes using steel mesh or a roasting rack if I have to...

I don't think the brethren that burn lump would have a need for this. The major problem for eggheads that can't get the temps up is- they have clogged the side intake holes with fat and ashes. A little maintenance keeps the egg working great
