Default 1 or 2 UDS ?

Okay its official I asked for the opinion of the bbq gurus here and they spoke!
For my first build it will be the UDS not the DBS

I have found a local spot for my barrel w/removable top, food grade, $8 each
Picking up next Saturday (need a week to clean garage.)
Now the question is do I build 1 or 2?
I will be using a flat lid versus the weber lid

The long tem plan is to be able to smoke acouple butts (8-10 lbs each) and acouple slabs of ribs at the same time.
I figure butts take more time so they are on the bottom rack, ribs on top.
Not sure theres enough room between bottom and top grates for that to happen.
Also not sure if there is a temp diff. Never done true smoke before, but thanks to everyone here, I am learning alot before I start.

Thanks again for all the great info, this site is the best there is.

BBQs are like women. The more the better.

I havent built my uds yet but I can imagine two being useful. One thing comes to mind is that you can use one to smolder and one to cold smoke by putting a tube between the two.

If you have the room, make two. I've run out of space on my UDS several times. I got another barrel recently, and my wife asked if that one is for another for us, or if it's going to a friend. She was quite happy when I told her it was for us, and that we'd have 2 UDS'.

If you have the space and the time build a pair. If you end up only needing one you can sell it for enough to pay off both of them.

If one is good, two would be better.

First one I built according to the K.I.S.S. method that way I was sure it worked and it did the second one I built almost the same but added a hinged lid ,casters, and folding side tables and it also works fine. So then I gave away the first one to a coworker and since have built a total of five more. Working on # six as we speak. Here's a pic of #2

Skidder the U in UDS is supposed to stand for ugly. Since you didn`t follow the rules You should send that one to me and build yourself an ugly one. BTW I would go with 2 if you are doing 1 you have the tools out and might as well make yourself a second.

I pretty much can't take the credit for this UDS. All I did was assemble it I got most of the ideas after reading the holy grail of all threads The UDS THREAD.

Thanks Chubby if you do your planning you should be able to make 2 UDS's in about 2 hours especially if you have your daughter helping. I wouldn't have a competition bbq/chili team without my daughters help. Goog luck.
