Default Texas Meccas ?

I will be spending a week in the Fort Worth, TX in April. I will have a couple afternoons free to take some road trips. For me this is my chance to visit a few of the brisket meccas. I am willing to travel some(day trips) to treat myself to some great Q. Any advice on where I should go?

Honestly, if I was you I would make a day trip down to Lockhart TX. It's about a 3.5 hour drive driving the speed limit. In Lockhart you'll find Blacks, Smitty's and Kreuz Market, all VERY well known in the BBQ world. Lockhart is the mecca for Texas BBQ. Simple as that. Here's a video where a guy hits all 3 in one day. Pretty good watch.

If that's just too far then there are a few places you can try around Fort Worth. There's Coopers, which is in the Fort Worth Stock Yards. Angelo's is suppposed to be pretty good, too. I HIGHLY recommend checking out this website for any place that you consider visiting in Texas:

He's a BBQ fanatic that gives pretty good, thorough reviews.

Edit: Check out his interactive map on the right side of the web page to see what's in close proximity to where you're staying.

They opened a Coopers next to Billy Bobs. Haven't tried it yet though. No telling if it compares to the original.

An hour or so north, just west of Gainsville, are the SmokeHouse and Dieter Brothers in Lindsay. Worth the trip in my book any way.
