Default Charleston, SC Q-joints (or along the way)

Hey all-y'all,

I'm heading to Charleston, SC on Saturday and wanted to hit a "good" barbecue spot (or several) along the way (and/or while I'm there)!

Any recommendations along I-95 south to I-26 east to Charleston? I've already hit about all the Q-joints in North Carolina, and I'm starting to work on South Carolina now.

ANY recommendations would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

sweatmans bbq in Holy Hilll, SC---maybe some of the best pork we ate last spring on a bbq road trip from Chicago and back---just a all pork buffet with perfectly cooked pork, great mustard sauce and divine banana pudding---we will be back again this year--think it is weekends only too

Hey 2Fat!

I tried, but I couldn't find "Sweatman's" in Holy Hill - or ANYWHERE!!!

Ended up at "Bubba Gump's" for seafood in Charleston.

Maybe next time...

Have you tried Bessingers? http://tinyurl.com/6yej99m
or Melvins? http://tinyurl.com/658qfc8
both are good joints.
Sweatman's is definitely a great call and even thought it's a chain, Jim N' Nicks is serving top notch BBQ (Drew Robinson the head pitmaster really knows his stuff)

McCabe's BBQ in Manning, SC is excellent. Take exit 122. It's better than Sweatman's by far.

The smoked/pulled chicken at Bessinger's is incredible! The mustard based sauce on the chicken is a real trademark. Hwy 17, just south of town....

Thanks all-y'all for the comments, but they are a bit late. I was in Charleston on 1/15-16.

I will keep these recommendations for next time and see what I can find.

Three Rivers Bar-B-Que in Lexington is my favorite..lol. All joking around, Sweatman's is very "old" school, and some of the best.
