Default Upcoming Charity Fundraising Event

Brethren,

I have been asked to help with another charity event. Last year, our church lost a dear member to Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. This year, her children (member of a sister church) and some of our members decided to do a charity BBQ dinner to raise money for the EDNF (http://www.ednf.org).

So far they have had four hogs donated, which will be processed (at least partially) by two meat lockers in the area. The meal will consist of whole hog pulled pork and side dishes. This will be a sit down meal, not a to-go lunch like the last fundraiser we did.

They hope to serve around 400 people. Do you think that four 100-125# (average sized) hogs should do the trick?

Are there any Brethren that would be willing to lend a hand?

The date of service is Saturday March 12th at 5 P.M. - cooking will begin Friday March 11th. You are welcome to come for as much, or as little time as you can or want. We will not be expected to help serve.

<Mods, I hope it's okay to leave this here...if not, please move.>

Dan,
A friend of mine (the guy who brought you the hot peppers this summer) has a Christian rock band and said they would play if you need or wanted a band there. He'd probably let Ron L and the boys join in as well.......

Thanks, Fitz, I'll let the folk in charge know, then get back to ya.

As far as Ron L and the gang joining in, I'm sure that as singers, they are GREAT BBQ cooks.

I was speaking figuratively when I mentioned "getting the band back together" Dan summed up my musical abilities very well

This isn't another one of those public humiliation threads is it?

I saw 50 people go through one hog about that size in no-time flat. But to be fair, they were all BBQ folk (JOS class).

I think you can plan on about 300-320 lbs of cooked meat from those. That's probably enough, considering it's for charity, and hopefully you won't have eaters like Myron had.

I'm not sure the details are done, yet...as far as whole hog, pieces, or a combo. Heck with several people making decisions, we may be doing brisket :) LOL

Clark, if you can make it, GREAT. It'd be great to see ya again. YOu can show me how to use my WSM. LOL.

btcg, I am hoping it will be a plated meal, served by volunteers, rather than buffet. Of course, I'm not sure how that would work with whole hogs.

While this is a charity event, and we can offer no tangible compensation to those who help, I personally will donate to you all my wit and charm (but no singing) :) LOL. Don't let that scare anyone off.

Oh, and Lord willing, there will be no "photoshopped" pictures of me in handcuffs, this time.

Dan,

Maybe your brothers here can help via donation, as well? I'd donate, and I'm sure many others would too. Post an address.
