Barrel any size with 1' copper pipe coming out the top 5 or6 1/2" holes in bottom, build fire under it using scrap wood or anything that burns , fill barrel with small pieces of wood of your choice 1 or 2 in. dia. make good charcoal, start fire gas with start coming out the pipe into the fire and burn off be a green color , cook around 4 hr maybe mor or less when done gas will stop coming out, wait until next day before opening barrel if air hit the hot charcoal it will burn up, , believe me on this one lol

so what you have here is effectively a "bio-char" or gasification stove. i just sat through a seminar on these at the mother earth news fair. interesting. if you pipe it into a low btu burner you could cook twice with the same wood, being that the food cooked by the gas is in a pot of some sort cooker (ie: dutch oven)

Nice retort Jestridge. I want to build one of those too.

How did the homemade lump work in the cooker?

I've been meaning to try that. Do you fill the drum to the top and does it all turn to lump?
