Question Pellet Smoker and Grill that can Sear

I am new to the world of smoking. I recently borrowed a buddy's Treager and liked it. I think I want to buy a pellet smoker but I also want to use it for grilling and searing meat (direct heat). My searches have me leaning toward a MAK. I am looking for some advice.

I have a Country Smokers/Louisiana Grills Tailgater 300 that will get to 750*
A lot of newcomers out there to the dark side that would fit your bill.

Good info here too:

I've got the FE 1000PC from cookshack/ Fast Eddy and that's exactly what it does. There is a direct flame area that we use to sear steaks and a inderect area for smoking. I've owned four traegers and this unit is buy far the best cooker on the market. www.pelletcooker.com is the website to check it out.

Check these out. They are just coming on the market. I think they will challenge anything out there! Built like a tank and MADE IN THE USA!!!

Yoder Pellet Grill

Two YS-480's in the foreground and a YS-640 in the background.

A close up of the YS-640. This is the one I'm getting to replace the prototype that I have been cooking on. Pay no attention to the man behind the grill.

The inside of the YS-640. He stuck with the expanded steel grates and made the lid flush with the body which I really like.

Here's the new control board.

Just FYI...Here's the final specs from the brochure for those who are interested.

Cooking surface:
480 sq. in - YS480
640 sq. in - YS640

Grill Surface Dimensions:
20 x 24 - YS480
20 x 32 - YS640

Hopper Capacity - 18lbs

Cooking Temp Range - 180 - 600

Steel Gauge:
10 on the Cooking Chamber
14 on the Hopper and Cart

Warranty:
10 years on grill body
3 years on the controller

MSRP is $1099 for the YS480 and $1299 for the YS640.

Catamountvt, I have a Memphis Pro... this is the first pellet smoker I've used. It smokes at 180 degrees F and will sear at 650 degrees F.
It also can be used as a convection oven... which has come in handy for me as well.
Here is the first test I did on the unit..

I've used it a LOT since this post and have not been disappointed with the outcome.

They also have other pellet grills/smokers to choose from.

Just another option.
