Default Unneccesary advice - aka "Didja know...?"

Figured everyone else has had their chance to start a thread for their own little tidbits of information.

I'm pretty good at unneccessary advice. Such as...

Didja know that even after you dump the charcoal out, the chimney retains a pretty good amount of heat for several minutes? I do now....

Not only that, but did you know that sometimes a lit briquette gets stuck in the chimney and continues to burn so that eventually it falls through the grates in the bottom of the chimney while you're carrying it barefooted...

Didja know that?

Didja know that if you put a full lit chimney on a damp concrete driveway some type of reaction occurs that can cause it to bottle rocket 6 feet into the air, rain hot lump charcoal on your lawn and driveway and put a 2" hole in the driveway ?

Didja know that if you put the custom vinyl cover back on your grill while its still hot, the cover will melt and stick to it?

Didja know that when cooking at a very high temp, when opening the grill a large rush of very hot air comes out. Ask me how I know . . . .

Didja know that when your mother claims to have started the propane grill but never ignites it and you come along twenty minutes later and open the lid and hit the ignitor you get burnt off eyebrows

Didja know that sometimes when you put something on top of the firebox when you're smoking on a horizontal stick burner, that besides getting really really hot, it can do wonders to things non-metallic?

Didja know that somehting similar happens when use a slate tile under your chimney? I bought the tile beacuse I thought it looked pretty... before *someone* put the chimney on it and it turned into shrapnel

Didja know long handled tools should not be near the propane tanks... have the propencity for cracking the tank valve open when fallen into them. Just hope there are no open flames nearby.

[Now stored in a retired comp cooler for protection]

Didja know...

...That standard, $1 store pot holders are nowhere near heat resistant enough to pick up and dump a metal pail of blazing red coals with?

...that even meat cooked "low and slow" is still hot enough to burn your mouth?

...that the traditional "mild", "Medium" & "Hot" scale is nowhere near accurate enough to prepare you for the vast array of tongue-blistering chilis available at most grocery stores?

Well, now you do.

Did you know that if I leave for a beer run my brother in law will be kind enough to open the smoker at least twice to check on the meat.

Didja know that when you are all ready to pull the pork off at 4am and wrap it and cooler so it will be ready to pull @ lunchtime, you will find 4inches of foil left on the roll.
