I'm very surprised that they couldn't attract 25 teams. This was a nice competition!

Marjorie, the organizer, does a great job and the whole neighborhood makes us welcome. Normally some of the teams are set up in a church parking lot but this year the church had a wedding scheduled for Saturday so the parking lot was off limits so we were set up on the street on the other side of the church. Rick, the church caretaker too great care of the teams in the lot last year and he was concerned that we couldn't set up there so he actually ran special power outlets and even hot and cold water spigots out the back of the church for us to use! Also, one of the condo owners across the street ran a hose out to his front yard and left the water on so the teams close to him had easy access to water. All evening on Friday the neighbors were walking by and stopping to talk to us and tell us how much they appreciate us coming for the competition and to support the growth of their neighborhood. For those of you looking for something to do on Labor Day weekend, you really should think about this one next year!

I would echo everything that Ron said! Geat job by the organizers, and we had a ball.

Score wise, OUCH! First DAL in a category since 2 years and 12 contests ago! Chicken, well, I've learned not to expect too much there, our ribs were slightly (10 minutes or so) from being just what I wanted, just a tiny bit chewier, but I didn't think DAL worth

Oh well, at least we stayed in the top 10 in pork

It was great seeing our freinds Beth and Nick from Moose BBQ get thier first call, and then two more, as well as having our neighbor, Ned and his wife, competing in his first contest as Taming of the Q, get a first place chicken call!

We ended up staying consistent in one other thing..we were all packed up, ready to roll, and another contestent needed jumper cables.
Unlike last year, when we had to unpack our whole back seat to get to them, this time they were at the ready, and 10 minutes later we were on the road.

Congrats to all the brethren that walked!

No rest for the wicked, today we have a party to go to. Guess we'll clean out the truck tomorrow

I'm seriously considering a change in routine to maybe get to this one next year.

Congratulations everybody!

Unless they could change to a saturday sunday deal I most likely wont get there.I visited with a few team saturday and in previous years and every one likes the contest. In the few hours we were there I saw volunteers alot more then I have in most contests where I have competed. I took the judging class last year there met the gal who runs it and she seemed like a great lady.

Ron L nailed it, this is an incredible setting for a BBQ contest in a beautifully evolving inner city neighborhood.

You all come next year:boxing:

I agree with RonL and Walt completely. If I had any suggestion at all for improvement, it would be water availability, but that becomes a small issue when you have a team of voluteers coming by constantly asking what they can do to help, do you need anything, etc. These folks bend over backwards to make sure everyone has a positive experience. And there are many folks from the neighborhood who come and chat and are just the best!

I truly felt bad for Marjorie that only 16 teams showed up, but, at least speaking for myself, I was happy to see every one of those teams!
We always look forward to seeing Walt, T, and Maggie (Ember does too)

Moose BBQ (Nick and Beth) we met last year at this comp, and we try to set up next to them any comp we're both at since.

RonL(and Parsley lady),Stockcar, Bearcat, Smoking Addiction, Logjammin(thanks again for the gloves Tyler!), Andy and Kim (Smoke On Wheels), I just can't imagine a better bunch of folks!!! (My sincere apologies to anyone I may have missed!)

Coz, I don't think we had the chance to meet, sorry you missed us, and us you.

I'd really like this to see 40 or so teams next year!

Coz, I don't think we had the chance to meet, sorry you missed us, and us you.

Most teams were busy with ribs and chix when we went thru so we just went over to Kim and Andys to try to gain some pork knowledge and buy some of his new injection and marinades to practice with.As soon as turn ins were done we got back home and then to the Dells for the races so we really didnt see many of the teams.I think we have been at a couple together this year we just havent got together.

This is a comp where teams have a good time, the volunteers are everywhere and always helpful. Congrats to everyone for another good time!

See you at Lamb's Farm.
