I load my basket with RO lump and then light RO briquettes in the chimney. Th ebriqs are easier to handle in the chimney and easier to control the amount of li from smoke to smoke

If there is an Academy Sports near you, try their B&B brand lump. Beautiful stuff - nice big lumps that seem to burn evenly. I never liked regular K, especially for minion mehtod type cooks - food seemed to taste like the fumes given off when the charcoal lights up. Had better success with the reg K when I let it get all fired up then ramped it down to cooking temp. Seems to be burn more briqs that way though.

My old faithful has been RO lump - has never failed (except for the bits of random carp in the bags)

So far I have had good success with regular K on my drum. I always throw in a few chunks or one larger chunk of seasoned apple wood. Be careful how much you light up in your chimney though. I made that mistake last weekend, three quarters of a chimney, fully lit, on top of about 12# unlit. I was fighting high temps all day. Never had high temp problems with my drum before.

Forgot to mention, Costco has an every day price for regular K of $15 for two 20# bags. Seems like an okay deal to me. Only do better around Que related holidays at the box stores. Speakin' of which, any deals at HD or Lowe's with Labor Day coming?

I solely use Humphreys Hardwood Lump Charcoal. It tends to run hotter which I like and it lasts a very long time.
