Default Silver to Gold Upgrade?

Im in the midst of creating a new patio project with a couple of 22-1/2" OTS bowls. Im told (by Weber) that the OTG ash catcher assembly will NOT fit on an OTS bowl? Has anyone tried such an upgrade?
