Default Prime Beef at Sam's?

Last week I did a conference call with Rod Gray of Pellet Envy while he was in Daytona for the Smoke on the Water event there. He is working with Sam's Club as part of their KCBS partnership and he told us that Sam's is starting to carry USDA prime at certain locations. He has seen it in Daytona and Kansas City but only recently.

I checked Sam's Club this week in Knoxville and Johnson City, TN, but found only Choice. I asked one of the meat dept guys and he hadn't heard anything about it. Has anyone seen Prime in there Sam's?

Also, as part of the promotional campaign they are letting me give away
1) A free Sam's Club membership and
2) a $25 Sam's gift card.

To enter the drawing on Monday night, just visit THIS PAGE on my blog and leave a comment about what Sam's Club is closest to you. Make sure you leave your BBQ Brethren name so I can get back in touch with you if you win.

So what about the prime beef....has anybody seen it at Sam's?

I've seen it on occasion, but that was before my Sam's switched to all choice Angus. It's was the same price as the choice.

I have noticed that sometimes the cases are marked "CHOICE OR HIGHER", so I guess a prime grade can slip into them.

I have ran into some Prime at our Sam's, but it was random. I found some packer briskets one time and then full Rib roast in cryo a couple times. Now what I have found in my little neck of the woods, is Waygu bag in Tenderloin (filet), and OOOOOOO WOW!!!! It was awesome!.

I've seen Prime in South Lakeland a few times but it's in a cryovac and it's random.

The Sam's in Ames, IA will carry a small, prime grade, prime rib section occasionally. What turned me off was it was in a black colored wrapper so you couldn't see the meat in it. It was higher priced too so I never gave it a try.
