Hello all...I just got a bead on a $10 drum for my first UDS. Seller says the drum contained Glycerin. Would this be good to use after a good burnout, or should I keep looking? What say you Brethren?
I missed out on a $35 22" Weber, but will keep looking! |

Quote:
Burn it out and get busy...it may have the coating which will take some elbow grease or a sand blast, but Glycerin or Glycerol is OK.

Thanks, Smoke and Beers, I have access to a grinder with a wire wheel, so I will most likely use that to get rid of any stubborn liner.

Thanks Alan...I will try the burn first...I have some scrap lumber left over from a back yard project that I want to get rid of. I'll throw a couple logs in for good measure then hit any problem areas with the grinder.

My UDS had glycol in it originally. A burn and a good grind and I was set. Like I say, most food grade drums have a liner and that's not food grade when it's burning so if it has a liner I wouldn't think it matters what's inside as long as you get to bare metal and get the steel hot enough.
