Default We're having great weather so I'm cooking all weekend

We're having some typical Central/Coastal Florida weather -- low's in the 50's and highs in the 70's with blue skies and light breezes!! Sorry guys, that's just the way it is :D

Got a chicken injected and sitting on the beer can stand for tonight. He'll be going in the gas grill about 4 p.m. I made up an injectable marinade and also seasoned under the skin with Lawry Salt. The beer can has butter, Southern Flavor and some Tony C.

My eldest picked up three racks of baby-backs for later this weekend. He and his brother are both working afternoon/evenings today and Saturday so I'll take off the membrane and dry rub them Saturday. Figure I'll fire off the New Braunfels smoker about noonish Sunday and we'll try some BBs for supper.

Think I'll jalapeno glaze one rack just to see if anyone else likes 'em glazed with the jelly.

Unfortunately the solar panels bit the dust when the roof was replaced last year :D
We're hoping to add a heater back into the mix this year. Nothing like a cool 70 degree
January day :D and a 88 degree pool. Too bad I can't do that right now.

It's OK, I probably would have stayed a week after I got there anyway! LOL

I was going to try to smoke today until the old shingles and tar paper was flying everywhere, thought it'd be best to wait another day.

We did the roof mod early last year. Our was pretty painless all things considered! :D

Today I did the "try and finish up the trim PAINT MOD" -- tomorrow I'll actually finish the gables after I get the ladder from the bro-in-law.

Maybe if I ever get the house and yard finished (I actually got some gravel into the drainage ditch!) I can try and host a FL/S.E mini-bash!! My current neighbor would have a cow (probably Mad Cow!) but his house is for sale!! :D

We have had great weather too. Jan 1 & 2, balmy for Michigan, highs in the 40's, darn near shirt sleeve weather. Haven't had a chance to cook much, but will do some ribs tomorrow and maybe fry another turkey. What kind of Charbroil/New Braunfels crossbreed is that? Looks like they used the molds from a gas grill to make a smoker with.

Hehehe!! It would drive my neighbor over the edge. Farker has called the cops on my sons (twice--both times the cops wondered what the call was for!!) and he's also the butt-head that called code enforcement on me.

Fortunately his house is for sale and I've seen lots of people stopping by. I just hope I get a new neighbor that likes wood smoke and 'que!!
We could knock down the fence between the yards and really have party!!! :D

David.
I joke alot.
But I'm not kidding.

What is the ballpark he is asking, and is the area suitable for vacation home?

Private message me if you want. I got 4-5 brothers in mind that might be interested in their own type of timeshare deal. How far to the beach!! (forgive me, I am from Chicago. To me, if you live in Florida, you live within a few blocks from the beach. I know it is not the case, but that is the impression. Went to Key West couple years ago, and it reinforced it, 3x6mi island or something)

Oh hell yes it could be a vacation home -- we're only about 10 minutes from the intercoastal waterway and about 15 minutes to Clearwater Beach (local "beaches" are close by along with coastal state parks, ect.). St. Pete Beach is about 30 minutes away, Anna Maria Island is about 45 minutes and Sarasota is about and hour. Mickey is about 1 1/2 hours (depends on traffic). Daytona Speedway and beach are about 2 hours away along with the Space Coast (Cananveral, etc.). Cruise ships to the Caribbean and Mexico leave out of Tampa. We have lots of spring training baseball -- Phillies here at Clearwater, Toronto at Dunedin, Yankees across the bay at Tampa, etc. Devil Rays at St. Pete and Bucs football (we won't talk about this season!).

I'm guessing he's asking about 185K -- see this URL and then Featured Properties http://www.homesudreamof.com MLS listing 7048730.

A smoker with an offset firebox and a chimney comming out of the bottom is all you can ask for. When I used a horizontal I liked to put a pan of water near the opening to the firebox to act as a heat sink.

It has about the space of a Hondo or Black Diamond. It has the flat top on the firebox and the chimney goes all the way down to the level of the cooking grate. I'm not even sure they named this model but it has the New Braunfels logo on it. It's built pretty well and the only mods I made were: charcoal basket, baffle between the firebox and cooking chamber, and I put a strut across the back between the legs so it wouldn't flex and drop the log grate from the frame.

I've got the normal firegrates for the offset firebox and the chamber and porceline grates for the main chamber and the firebox, too, in case I want to grill a steak or such.

It was going for $155 at WalMart and is pretty well setup -- I'm sure I'll pass along praise or bitches as I cook with it.

Well, we just killed off two racks of babyback ribs. The new cooker performed well
and it was nice to be able to leave the ribs in whole racks. Tried jalapeno jelly on
half of one rack -- too mild! Will have to try the habanero jelly next time.

Hope all the brethren had a good New Years weekend!! Looking forward to MLK Day
for the next long weekend!! Then it's a LONG haul until Memorial Day!!! That's one
of the hazards of working for the state of Florida -- we don't get a lot of "extra"
holidays -- I long for Texas where we got LBJ's Birthday and Confederate Hero's Day!!
:D :D :D
