Default dutch monthly forum challenge

On our dutch bbq forum, we have a monthly challenge, wich means that every month, one member picks a recipe from one of his bbq books, wich he hasn't made yet. This month it was my turn, and I took a recipe from the big bob gibson's bbq book:Rubbed and grilled porkloin with apple bourbon barbecue sauce. with 2 side dishes: coal fired sweet patatoes with pecanbutter and a mixed vegetable grill with a balsamic honey marinade.
My goal was to finish it all at the same time, and to use only one grill.

preps for the sauce and yes that's ahum liquid smoke ahum.... wanted to keep as close to the original recipe.

Porkloin, and underneath the grate, the patatoes.

for some reason the meat was allready finished before the rest, so luckely a long time ago I was a boyscout, so some foil and a sleepingbag!

the veggies

everything together

Wow- that looks good!! Its always interesting to see the ingredients used in other countries and yes, you will get some grief over putiing liquid smoke front and centre. I would bet the original recipe wasn't made with the benefit of a WSM!! Regardless, that does look good!

haha I did put the bottle in front on purpose, we have the same discussion overhere, I got the bottle from a friend in the states, overhere you can not buy it in the local store. and it was the first time I used it. I wanted to keep as close to the original recipe. but in my defence, I only putt in half of the amount LOL. some ingredients where difficult to find, like maple syrup, molasses, we don't have those things in our suermarkets. but that's the challenge!

Ummm, Grappa! That is the only word I remember from my trip to Italy some 15 years ago... If my memory serves me correct, they said it was like white lightning only made with grapes. I do know it gave me the same numbness feeling as moonshine...

Great look'n eats!!!

Dang Spiffy, best plate I've seen from you!
Kudos!
If you used liquid smoke it must be for a good reason...
Funny that nobody said that the glass globe looks like a bong.

Meat Burner,I have posted numerous times about our Dutch forum but nobody said something about that.....

Obviously we're more concerned about the use of Liquid Smoke than we are about the use of mind-altering substances!

We're not as picky about that as some other places. There are forums out there that would delete Spiffs' post simply because it mentioned another forum. We do prefer that posts are not used to advertise for another forum, but mentioning one or even linking to info on another forum (as long as the info can't be found on the Brethren site) is just fine.

it was never my intention to advertise for an other forum, and believe me, the dutch forum, is active, but can in no way be compared with this one. we have a group of I think 20 very active members and that's it.

thank you all for the positive feedback! still consider myself as a newbe when it comes to bbq
