Default My best friend and assistant cook

My best friend, Stanley, who was always with me when I cooked has crossed to the RainbowBridge. Stanley was a 12 year old Australian Shepphard who instinctively knew when it was cook day. He would prance around and supervise me loading the charcoal and would help me pick out the wood. Intently watching as I placed the meat on and stayed by my side every second of the cook. He is the one who got the chefs share of the meat when it came off.

We cooked last night...his final cook. Everything was normal. He patiently waited while I pulled the butts and got his chefs share and gladly wolfed it down. We then went to bed.

Today he could barely walk...wobbly. He was struggling to breathe. I rushed him to the vet who did X-rays and ultrasound and found a large cancerous mass on his spleen that was bleeding. I didn't want to say goodbye but I had no choice. He was suffering and would die a horrible death had we not have made that decision to let him go.

I am so glad we had that one final cook together. I'm gonna miss my Stanley Boy.

I love you buddy!

Don't be sad. Now he can have all the BBQ he wants and not suffer. I miss him. This house feels so different and so empty now.

I am really sorry for your loss, I lost my best bud "Girl" last year. There is nothing easy about it and you'll never forget them. They are kind of like children, always there when you need them and they never complain. I always try to remember the good times, just remember every time you fire that pit up Stanley will be right there with you and all the good memories that you two share together. Sorry for your loss :(

Terrible news. Those little guys bring so much into our lives. It's tough letting them go.

Beautiful Pup. You did the right thing. So many keep animals alive for themselves rather than let nature take it's course and the animal suffers for it.

Reading this brings tears to my eyes and a lump in my throat. My buddy is sitting right by me now and i know his days are limited. So so sorry for your loss my brother. Nothing easy about this. Find a new companion and show him/her the ropes.
