Hello Brethren,
Just thought I would let you know that I went to Canton today to register for the competition. Their are no spaces available in the backyard Division. So I am on the waiting list. There are spaces in the Pro-Division. I have a plan for competing w/ three meats in the Backyard but doing a brisket would kill me. Physically and financially. Is there anyone on the Forum that might want to team up and split the costs to compete in the Professional Division? Remember the prize money and the rewards are bigger in the Pro-Division even if we are using backyard equipment. The Uncle Bud's crew took 3rd Overall at the 1st Annual Atlanta BBQ a few weeks ago and they only use backyard equipment. Jshepwnc placed 1st in chicken in the Backyard Division and was competing against at least 5 teams that should have been competing in the Pro-Division, in my opinion, since they were catering companies. So it can be done! Let's team up and make this happen for both of us. With fewer teams in the Pro-Division I think we stand a really good chance in taking home a little prize money and a whole lot of pride.

I think you'll have better luck at another forum Redheart. Most of the people that frequent this site are from other areas of the country. Try Addicted to BBQ, National BBQ News or Basso's.
Hope to see you in Canton! Gowan Fenley Johnny Mitchell's Smokehouse |

Thanks for the info I will check out the other forums. I will see ya in Canton if I have to sell blood to raise the additional money for the pro level entry. i am already working on further mods to create a 4 rack system for my lil smoker. Dropped by your CivilwarBBQ.com. Interesting looking site with some interesting sounding sauces. Will you have them at Canton so we can taste test them? Take care

I don't usually bring my sauces out to contests where I'm cooking under someone else's flag. I've been partnered with Johnny, Warren and Bobby as the Johnny Mitchell's Smokehouse team for the past 4 years, and we use Johnny's rubs and sauces in competition.
On the rare occasions when I cook under my own name I do use my sauces, and the only time out this year took first place in pork at the Euharlee contest using my Pickett sauce. On the smoker front, I can make you some good deals on ceramic cookers if you are interested. We have some extras that we are liquidating from our fleet. |
