Default Traeger pellet smokers

Any one have one? How do you like it? How long does a 20# bag of pellets last vs 20# of charcoal IE long cooks.

Can you grill and also do low n slow?

Thanx

If part of your goal is to grill over high heat with the same unit, then Traeger is probably not the best solution... not really a high heat unit.

A ceramic cooker like a BGE, Primo etc.. is better suited for high heat and low n slow.

If you want pellet cooker for grilling, consider the new Fast Eddy Grill..

I have a Country Smoker CS680 pellet smoker, and I can get it up over 500 degrees for grilling. Tragers won't get quite as hot, I don't think, but they are still fine units.

i like how 20 lbs of pellets at 225F will last 40 hours. that is only 19$ for a bag.

I dont think i could get 20lbs of charcoal to last 40 hours

I can get $19 worth of charcoal to last well over 40 hours though, never mind the weight. 40lbs @ $9 when it was on sale at HD.

I think Pellet cookers have a place and are real cool. My Traeger doesnt get as hot as my country smoker.....The Primo I have is great and is more versitile and requires some technique. The Traeger is like an outdoor crock pot. The only thing is that the Traegers are small when it comes to grilling areas....You find your self wishing you had a little more and that is even with the shelf

I have a Traeger and love it.

I have a UDS and love it

I have a WSM (well actually 2 of them) and love it

There's a reason most of us have more than one type of smoker. It's because we want to cook different ways. And different smokers work differently.

I love how ribs come out on my traeger. But there's nothing better than a pork butt on the WSM.

Can I buy you a drink? That was very well said...... I also like the "outdoor crock pot" remark too. Not that I dont want one, but it was funny. It is wierd, I want a BGE badly, and just need to decide where I am buying it from, and I have a total of $15 in my UDS. And yet, I see value in both.

Whats funny is that I use the Primo the least and its great. I have a BDS that I cook most thick meats and use the traeger for sides...baked potatos vegie's appies

The country smoker is a 680 and with the variable temp knob I can get the 210 . I cooked two shoulders and six racks of ribs on it.....had the veggies going on the traeger and the spatchcock chix on the bds...I was in heaven.

I started with a traeger.....so back to point look at whats happened....i have the disease

I really like my Country Smoker. I was introduced to the pellet poopers by trying some food off of a Traeger and it went from there.

I still love my WSM and use my other grills for high heat grilling (even though the CS will get on up there), but it is nice to be able to just drop some pellets in the hopper and hit a switch to start the smoke rolling.

I got a Traeger, and love it, ribs, chicken and burgers is awesome on it, I tried to do steaks on it, it just isn't good, it's more like a roast than a steak when done, and rubbery.
