It may be an Old wives tale but my Old Lady thinks it work so she puts about a dozen in our basement every fall when the come in(as long as it makes her happy and she clens em up I don't care).

I have had some steaks cooked on a grill over an open fire of Osage orange and man were they bitter, I will never try it again.
