I'm new to the Forum and would like to say thanks for all of the information that I have already gathered.
I live on Guam and BBQ is a religion out here as it is in several other parts of the world. On this second run I was able to get to 225 within a half hour or so but my wood would only last about an hour before I would have to reload. I've been reading alot about the baskets and was thinking about trying that technique but wasn't sure. I do need all of the heat that I can get and I'm not sure if restricting the wood burn rate would produce enough heat. Any thoughts? Kickin Back

To get a longer burn rate, i think you need a set of ape hanger's handle bars.

about an hour before adding wood is about typical for a stickburner. you could go w/ bigger splits & more airflow for a hotter cleaner fire.

Welcome aboard - love the pit!
As blues n cues said, an hour for a big stick-burner is about right. Hey, hop on over to Cattle Call and introduce yourself. Would love to hear about Guam and the BBQ climate. Arlin
