Default How many pork butts can you get on a UDS?

Curious to see how many and what size pork butts people have been able to fit on a UDS with 2 racks.

Thanks!

I don't know about just pork butts....

A couple of weeks ago I got on a 17 pound brisket (point and flat split), a 7 pound Butt, and 2 pounds of breakfast links on a single rack....

I think 3 per rack if they're not too big. You could also build an extension ring and double that as per this pic:

I can get 4 per rack if they are small - 6 pounds each or so. With 2 racks it makes for a lot of pork pullin'.

I will do two 8 pounder on each rack. Any more than that and you may get soooo much fat that the temp control is a real problem. That also allows the heat and smoke to cook the butts the right way. Some folk have posted on much more but I really question the quality of the results. This is on a normal 55 gal UDS with two racks and a Weber lid. Give whatever you think a try and let us know!

I did 7 once. three on the lower rack and 4 on the top rack.
On the top rack I stood them up like a teepee and put the weber lid over it.

I've done 8 -8lb butts on two racks with a weber lid and a 16 in clay pot saucer in place. Set one intake wide open and just cracked the other. Ran at 230. Set it and forget it. They are a little tight in there at first, but then they shrink up, and bark up. It's a beautiful thing!
