Interesting. Never forget that most BBQ restaurants are in the restaurant business and not the BBQ business. I find that the best BBQ is found at those hole in the wall BBQ joints on the backroads of America and not the ones found just up the road from the shopping malls.

I saw the show also, and thought it was great. I have been to the Rendevous before and it was very good. I would not say it the best ribs I had, but worth eating if you get a chance.

I watched it last nite as well.....As TN_BBQ stated above, one of the more interesting places was a "cook shack" next to a church in Texas, run by the church members....simple honest BBQ, no gimmicks, etc. etc......can't remember the name off hand, but I think was voted one of 50 "best" in Texas...Also showed the "Shed" in Ocean Springs Mississippi....I've eaten there....not the best que I've had but the combo of great blues, beer and bbq, in a real "funky" atmosphere certainly made for a memorable meal....Funny, my son and I both said the same thing about the joint in Venice, Ca....What's with the farkin' forks!!

Kinda off the bbq subject, but staying with the food paradise subject: has anyone seen the episode where they show the restaurant that deep fries their burgers? Evidently, they've used the same oil since the early 1900's. It looks HORRIBLE. They dip the buns in it and everything. The burgers are just dripping with fat. The oil they use looks like sludge. Blech.

We eat ribs with our fingers the way they were intended to be eaten. Eating them with a fork is just plain wrong... I'll keep an eye out for the re-run. mick |

I watched, (at least 3 times this week). I also noticed when the cooks at Rendevous basted the ribs, all the charcoal dust went up and on the ribs. That can't taste good.

Rendezvous is a tourist attraction for sure, just not sure why. Of all of the places we had BBQ in Memphis that was our least favorite (and we even ate at a Smokey Bones).
But then again to be fair, Rendezvous doesn't really claim to be a BBQ joint, they say they are "Charcoal Ribs" and that is what they tasted like, ribs cooked hot and faast over charcoal.

We have cooked hamburgers in a deepfryer at our restraunt upon request but I wouldn't want to do that to everyone's cholesterol...we'd be killing off all of our customers! I gotta admit though they do taste good! But we do change our oil every two days regardless.
