I finally began work on my 2nd UDS. I just love the way these cook! I bought (at a discount) a Uniflame 22" kettle charcoal grill With warming Rack from WM and I'm stripping it of useful parts. These units are flimsy BTW. What really interested me was the hinged lid, which I thought would look really cool on a drum. I also plan to put 90° elbows at the intakes so the incoming air isn't blowing directly on the coals and causing uneven burning.
Pics will follow of course!

Very interesting to see the improvements you will make to the last one. The indirect intake air idea sounds promising as does the hinged lid.

I saw one of those and passed it by because of the hinged lid. Maybe I should give it a second look.
How do you plan to use the hinge?

The lid/hinge should bolt right to the drum...but it might need a little help. I'll know more when I try to fit it.
