Hey folks, I've got 2 butts and some brats going in and I need some help. One butt is 6.5 lbs. the other is 5lbs. My plan is to put the bigger butt in about an hour or so before the smaller one. My biggest question is when do I put the uncooked bratts? I planned on a brisket but couldn't locate one in the 3 supermarkets I went to. Go figure. There's only 3 of us and any neighbors who might stop by so I think we'll have enough food.
Thanks

Can't help you with the brats - I prefer mine grilled.
I would put both butts on at the same time and put them on earlier then you think you should - as we all know, Q takes as long as it takes. Better to finish them and give them a rest in a cooler then to have hungry folks and no Q....

I've already taken the advice and put the smaller butt on the heat. The brats were an afterthought. I suspect I could just cook them late, while the butts are setting up. Thanks.

You'll have plenty of time for the brats when the butts hit the plateau...even if the butts finish first you can cooler them...no worries.

Sound advice here. "SHE" knows what she's talking about!

see that, I used "folks", instead of "guys", cause I suspected there would be a woman or two answering me. Don't want to offend someone who can help me.

Some of the best guys I know are women! In fact, my wife is a woman! And still quite a guy! She is more man than me, capable of fixing our 3 year old pancakes, while holding our newborn, and vacuuming at thew same time, while talkin on the phone with our 15 year old daughter.
All the while looking like an incredible hottie.

I start getting a burn in my bicep holding little Joey more than 3 minutes.

if you are cooking at 225-250 and the brats are 4:1 they shouldn't take mor than an hour, give or take a few minutes.

About 60-90 minutes, depending on size (yes, size does matter). Cook to 160 internal.

I would say throw them on for about an hour for that smokey good flavor and then, if not to your liking, finish off on the grill.
