Mod, please move if in wrong spot
Most competitions give you a gift bag of some sort. Some times there's really cool stuff and other times you just scratch your head and wonder. Just curious, what is the best, most unusual or worse thing you have ever got in your gift bag? For me my son realy likes the lapel pins. One contest had a chair that was really cool and perfume (which my wife liked).

Contest coozies are cool with me. Except the one from State Center is too big for a normal can. T-shirts are OK if they provide the right size.
That's about as far as I get. Pens, notepads etc from the various sponsors just get overlooked.

At one contest the local Bud distributor gave out choice a 12 pack of Bud or Bud Light.

Contest aprons or T-shirts are always useful especially if sized appropriately. Water bottles are good too.
I think at Dover last year there were some different things like a pepper mill and a cooking DVD of some sort. Most of the other smaller sized stuff I've received usally ends up getting tossed or lost (ex. pens, pin, keychains).

I think it was about six years ago at the Missouri State Fair contest.

Aprons are always good, along with hats and koozies, thermometers or anything useful.
Our gift bag in Lincoln had a small plastic bag in it. Talk about a head scratcher.

I like the pins too, as I already have more aprons than I need and the Tshirts rarely are large enough.
Best thing I've seen was a full sized fire extinguisher given at the old Springville, AL contest. Quite useful and valuable too! Nice job on that, Troy. |

I just did my first comp. Got a bag full fo Tupperware utensils. Spatulas, spoons, etc... I'll find a use for it all.
I'm a hat and T-shirt guy. Most comps I have been to have T-shirts. Why not put a coupon in the bag that's good for one free T-shirt? That way every competitor can get the right size.

Most of the comps we've done have not had goodie bags, but I think my all-time favorite goodie bag enclosure was an emergency whistle. In case you got caught in an avalanche, or had just finally had enough when another team didn't seem to get the drift of "quiet time", I suppose.
And while T-shirts are sometimes fabulous -- there are some GREAT comp logos out there -- I have to wonder why in the world the sizing doesn't just start at 2X and go up from there. *looks around appreciatively at all the big burly BBQ cooker men*

I always like getting aprons. Not that I am greedy and I understand T-Shirts cost money but they give one T-Shirt, how many teams have one person on it. Also the size I usually get are medium or large. From what I have seen most of the guys cooking are at least 1X, usually 2X. Just my $.2. Please tell me if I am being a greedy arse.
