Question What's the perfect tail gate smoker/grill/cooker

OK. As the tail gating season begins and I have come to realize the difficulty of transporting my Stump 223 back and forth to games, I was thinking about a new acquisition purely for the tailgating seen.

I have toyed with the idea of the Stump Tailgater as well as a custom made mini-stump made with 2 - 18' square racks inside a 24' X 24' box with a short gravity feed shoot designed to mount in the trailer hitch mount. Thinking this would be a good option given my love of the stumper.

That said, I thought I would post this out and see what the brethren thought. So with that, what would you think would be the optimal tailgating solution. Figure that the longest cook tailgating would likely be ribs, so figure ribs, chicken, fatties and the like the optimal menu options.

Also, while not a primary consideration, it would be nice to have the ability to decorate the smoker in question to compliment your team. In this case The Citadel Bulldogs, but I think a generic option would be best so that it could be decorated to compliment any tailgating team/scheme.

If you have an inverter, a Country Smoker TG-300 rocks. Aka, the Tailgater. It can grill, smoke, you name it. I can make a mean brisket on it in 4 hours. Sear steaks, cook bacon wrapped tenderloins.... ribs ... you name it. temps from 200 to 650

If you have the room however, a UDS is hard to beat. 25lb drum rocks.

A WSM is easy to transport, but may lack the capacity you might be looking for. I love my WSM, but getting to the bottom rack can be a pain at times.

What's the budget? Are you concerned with it walking off at the game or will you be able to stow it away?

i don't know about the ideal set-up, but as a secondary unit a Hibachi is always fun to have,

What Norco said!!!

It all depends on what you want to cook. I have a homemade pipe grill which is great, but it weighs close to 100lbs, and is a real pain to move. It has to literally sit on a tailgate to be at the right height. Lately, I have become a born-again fan of the Weber kettles. They cost around $80.00 brand new, are very light weight, and I cooked for 30 with two of them at work with no problem. The last few times that my wife and I have gone tailgating, we have mostly cooked chicken, hamburgers, and beer boiled brats. All of which are perfect on a kettle.

With that said, I still love the attention I get when I pull up with the Lang. However, the last few times we have brought her to a party, we have used her as a warmer and air freshener... Nothing sets of a party like hardwood smoke!

To answer the food question, we normally have between 10 and 20.

To answer the purpose question, to make good food, but who does not like showing off?

To answer the budget question, what is reasonable for a good tailgating rig where you tailgate at every home game and any aways within a 4 hour drive? I was thinking some where south of the $500 range (the lower the better) but I guess it depends on how close you can get to "ideal."
