I am looking for a new pit. What features should be included in the pit?
I do competition cooking and some catering and a whole lot of barbecuing at home. Thanks

I have been doing competitions for 4 years and have found one thing at the top of my list of features, BURN TIME! If you have a pit that is only getting you 3 or 4 hours at constant 250 you are going to be a very tired sole by 12:00 Saturday afternoon. We have spent countless hours, and $$ doing mods to our offset to get a 13 to 14 hour burn out of her. That really equates to a good charcoal basket design, good insulation, and a BBQ Guru to control heat and air flow. My 2 cents.

Well if you doing alot of catering for lots of people look at a rotisserie pellet or gas assist cooker.
Now if you do more home and contest cooking then its a question of opinion. Vertical, offset, insulated, gravity feed, pellet etc. So, what are you looking for in a cooker? From there you can get better awnsers.

What is important to YOU? There are so many kinds, shapes, prices, and ease of use, it's impossible to start at 0.
