Well I finally broke down and bought a BBQ Guru for my WSM. Guess I've gotten tired of watching and worrying about temps. I must say though, I used to own a Klose Backyard Chef and the WSM has been much much easier to hold a constant temp. Well I've hooked her up, threw on a couple slabs of babys and we'll see how she goes. I set of the WSM with the Minion method and let her stabilize with the Guru. So far it has been rock steady holding my programmed 265 degrees.
Had to set up a tent thanks to a light rain, but I couldn't wait another day to try my new toy! http://i880.photobucket.com/albums/a...t/DSC00320.jpg Well here's my new baby. It's holding exactly 265 degrees but the camera only picks up one digit at a time. http://i880.photobucket.com/albums/a...t/DSC00314.jpg The dome temp shows just over 250 while the grate is holding 265. http://i880.photobucket.com/albums/a...t/DSC00318.jpg Here's the 10cfm fan installed in the charcoal bowl http://i880.photobucket.com/albums/a...t/DSC00310.jpg And I bought their grommet kit so I don't have to run the probe cables under to cover any more. This was slick ! http://i880.photobucket.com/albums/a...t/DSC00315.jpg Well I'll see how it goes after a couple hours.

So far this thing has been sitting rock steady at 265 for almost 1 1/2 hours! I think I'm going to like this. Frees me up for more grass cutting.

A couple of suggestions: Get a couple of extra food probes for those times when you want to do a brisket and a fatty or butt; Get the smoking jacket if you want to help your fuel go further.

Well it's about 3 hours into the cook and it's still at 265. It's either a miracle or it's broken !!

Well the rain is here and the outside temp has dropped 14 degrees and the wind has picked up.... but the Guru still says 265 degrees !! Whoever did the software algorithms for this thing is a genius.

Well it's really raining now and the outdoor temps have dropped even more. I pulled the ribs out of the foil, dropped the set temp of the Guru to 250 and sauced the ribs. After 1/2 hour the first rack was done. The second will need a little more. They sure look good but I didn't get any more pics because of the heavy rain and wind. Guru is now holding a steady 250 in the rain and wind. Amazing !

Well all done. Sorry for no pics, the rain and wind made it difficult and almost blew down the tent. As far as my first cook with the BBQ Guru I'm extremely impressed. I'm giving it an A+. It held temp for the entire cook exactly where I set it even when the temperature outdoors went from 81 degrees sunny and calm to when the temperature dropped almost 20 degrees became windy and heavy rain. When removing the lid to check the meat the temps recovered quickly. And the end result: the ribs and sausage came out delicious.

I'm glad you did this..I have been thinking of getting the guru for my WSM but have been on the fence due to cost. Sounds like it would be well worth the money. Thanks!

I paid a total of $283.21. That included shipping and the grommet kit. So far it's one of those purchases that I feel I got my moneys worth.
