Default Well, this certainly sucks (fire ban)

Wouldn't ya' know it...complete fire ban up here (n.e. Minnesota). About
the only thing that you can do outside is smoke a cigarette, and that
may disappear this week if we don't get some serious rain.

No fires, welding (gas or arc), sparks, open flame, CHARCOAL, backfiring
exhausts, nothing....

GRRRR.......

Global warming or whatever is raising havoc all over the country.
No open burning here in Michigan either on the orders of the Dept. Nat. Resource! State wide band burning band.
My buddy who lives in Fla. was here last week to visit. Return trip home he said was horrible in southern Georgia and N. Florida. Could barely see driving home due to the heavy smoke.

I visit weather.gov.......every day and see the burning bands nationwide.

Shaking head here.

TX and OK had it bad for about 2 years. North TX has had alot of rain this spring. I'm gonna try to cook as much as possible before our summer drought hits. Good noews is that our area lakes that were 10-18 foot low are now full.

That is some major suckage ibait2fish. I don't think we are ... but I'd better check to make sure we're not located in some type of burn ban area!

I think I would fire up the smoker without a thought. If people can still smoke and toss their butts out the window of a car, a person smoking responsibly shouldn't get a hard time from anyone.

I would make sure all your fire prevention devices are in place though. It never hurts to have an extra fire extinguisher on hand.

I truly feel your pain, bro. Like thillin said, we North TXFOs and OKFOs have been there and hated it. I finally went out and bought a gasser Hibachi...

I hope yours ends soon!

Up in the high country here we had a beetle infestation in the pine trees. Killed an S’load of trees. I dread the day a fire breaks out here.

I'm pretty sure that tossing lit OPB's out the window is verboten, even
when there isn't a ban. :)
The problem is that we've got tons of dead, dry fuel lying around....a minimum of 500,000+ acres of dead trees stacked like cordwood...and
the powers that be are pretty dead dog serious. Violating the ban hereabouts is likely result in fines from Superior National Forest and
the local fire marshal, perhaps even the County board. Then there's the fire bill....8-10 trucks, 30-60 firefighters, and depending where you are, likely two tanker aircraft, and two aircrews.:( Some fool lit a burn barrel last Wed., it didn't get away from him, he had hoses, but with the smoke,
he'll be out over $4000. Baby backs are great, but, geez...:(

I have to wonder about idiots like that.

Even with the bans you can't stop stupid people from being stupid. We had that one women a few years back that burned a letter and started a 130,000+ acre fire with 130+ homes burned down. To top it all off she was a U.S. Forest Service worker.

I remember her. What ever happened with that? Did she get charged and fined?
