Temperature Monitor aka thermometer??? or are you talking about the inability of your pit-b!tch to keep temperatures constant. If you are talking about a thermometer, an ice water bath and boiling water corrected for altitude are good ways to check calibration. For the pit-b!tch a dope-slap every now and then should work...

boiling water should read ~212, and ice water should read ~32. Most digital thermometers you buy in the store have no way to calibrate, so just mark on the thermometer display unit (with a piece of tape and marker) . For example if it reads 210 in boiling water I would mark it -2.

this is what happened this weekend at an compomtion
my meat prob was out of the cooker at 120 then i put it in to water to check it
went to 110 ( in the water)
put probe in to the meat went to 36
cooked all night checked the meat was at 175 ( i knew that was wrong )
so i got my hand held one and it checked 178 but it shil in to my pork but with one finger with no problem
so i wraped it an coolered it till turn in and it was like apple sauce looking
way over cooked

my thoughts are my meat probes are trashed and my hand held one is to

Am I reading this correctly??? You knew it was wrong, but you had no problem putting one finger up a pork's butt???

My suggestion before you buy new gear is to replace the batteries and retry the ice/boiling water test in the comfort of your kitchen. If they don't work with new batteries, time to at least replace the remote sensor for the meat monitor, because they do go bad.

Also - Wash you hands...

Definetly try the batteries. If it's not the batteries, you farked them up good. Start over and get new ones.

York, either get new batteries or new thermometers. Plus keep the old dial thermometer in your bbq box just in case, I broke two of mine at Jeff City but still had my backup.

I would look for some reason that ALL your thermometers would have gone bad at one time. Maybe you stored them with something that zapped them or something.

As far as buying new ones go, I have a CharmGlow with a remote sensor that I bought from Home Depot over a year ago for 29.99 that is a real trooper. Never lost a probe on it and it will register pit temps over 400*. Dead on accurate. I just bought 2 taylor weekend warriors from Lowes for 19.99 each. They were both dead on calibrated but they will blank out above 212* or below 32* so they are only good for internal temps. I also don't expect the probes to hold up as well as the CharmGlow due to the feel of the construction.
