Default Bad butts

I have read in at least a few posts where someone has purchased some butts, not used them right away and they went bad. What a nightmare. I would hate to get all set to do some butts on the wknd and open the bag to find they have gone bad.

Just a few questions so we can can prevent this catastrophy.

Did you freeze them? How long did you leave them in the fridge? Was there a date on the bag? How long should they last if sealed in Kryovac and kept in fridge?

Ive never paid any attention if there was a date on the bag. Whenever Ive done butts, I'll buy em on Friday at Sams in the 2-pak, take them home and rub them that night to be smoked the next day.

I usually buy butts by the case at Sam's. You get 4-5 cryopacks with two butts per. If I don't smoke them with in a week of purchase I freeze them. Most of the time I just load up the 'dera with 6 butts and smoke away. After I'm done pulling, I freeze the pork in 2 lb. foodsaver bags.
